I don't like long road trips. I guess that's why I've never seen much other than the southwest, except for a trip to Florida one time.

And I agree with Steve. The highway going through Texas is a bit boring. When I go through there I try to take some of the out-of-the-way routes. I went through Fredericksburg, Texas, on my way to Florida. Charming town with a flavor of German culture.

I have already done the drive to Western Michigan to visit my in-laws and that was already long but that was only 772 miles; but honestly, it felt longer so I can't even imagine what 1737 miles must be.

The Ohio portion is awful, so Steven I can relate to your Texas experience. There are no good highway that goes diagonally from Southeast Ohio to the Northwestern part of the state so you have to go North South and then East West. Bottom line you are in Ohio forever.

I just did a Mapquest out of curiosity and from Durham, NC where I live to Albuquerque, NM, you have to drive 1,737 miles (1 day and 2 hours).

You cross Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, a little portion of Texas before entering New Mexico.

#30 MDR

I-40 even goes to the Nevada Arizona border, so Steven could even pick you up on the way.

Just kidding.

The size of this country still amazes me. I have not really got used to it. The Interstate grid is really fascinating. It's amazing to me that a the same highway can link places located two time zones away.

Hey Jo Ann, you can come easily visit us. I have just noticed that I-40 goes all the way from Albuquerque to the North Carolina Coast.
